Gioacchino Rossini - Andante e Tema con Variazioni for Flute, Clarinet, Horn, and Bassoon. Taken from Bärenreiter’s first volume in the “Works of Gioachino Rossini," this brilliant chamber music composition for winds belongs to a little known genre of Rossini’s output. Andante, e Tema con Variazioni was allegedly written in Bologna in 1812. Rossini deftly sculpts the theme to fit each instrument (i.e. all players take their turn with the tuneful theme).
