Gabriel Fauré - Pie Jesu, arranged for Clarinet and Piano by Bryan Doughty. Gabriel Fauré’s Pie Jesu is a lyrical soprano solo from his Requiem, Op. 48, which he composed between 1887 and 1890. The text, taken from the Dies irae sequence of the Catholic Mass for the Dead, is a plea to Jesus for eternal rest, and Fauré sets it with a restrained, prayerful melody accompanied by a gentle orchestral texture. Unlike many dramatic nineteenth-century requiems, Fauré’s work emphasizes consolation and serenity, qualities that are especially evident in this movement. Published by Cimarron Music Press.
